Get Fit Challenge 2014 Grand Prize Winner
"The 2014 Get Fit Challenge helped me be a role model for my 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son, showing them how to get fit and be happy. I will always treasure these last several months as I continue my path to a better, healthier, and happier life."
Throughout the 2014 XSport Get Fit Challenge, I had so much support from my family and friends, whether they volunteered to babysit or continuously told me how I'm an inspiration to them. As I reflect on my original goals, I realize that I've exceeded them. I wanted to show my children a healthy and happy path in life.
As I write this, I am close to 50 pounds lighter than when the Get Fit Challenge began, and as awesome as that is, I've actually lost 100 pounds since I embarked on my fitness journey over 6 months ago. It all started when I met the best trainer ever - Louis Albanese at XSport Fitness in Massapequa, New York.
His motivating style is like having my own personal cheerleader, "Go, go, go!" and "You got this!" and "C'mon, 1 more, 2 more, 3 more!" Clapping, woohooing, and high fiving our way through each workout, the session flies by. I have so much fun regardless of what muscle group we work or type of training we are doing.
One day, Lou asked, "Why don't I ever see you on the floor unless you're training with me or heading to a class?"
"I'm not ready."
"Yes you are," and Lou showed me I was by giving me training homework assignments. Eventually I followed an entire workout plan on my own, and now I feel so confident, I've lead my sister and best friend through workout sessions. Both have also started training with Lou to get fit and happy like me.
Going to the gym and following the eating plan that Lou customized to my goals is a part time job. I have taken over two shelves in the fridge and half the pantry with all my prepped meals! The added regimen of XSport Nutrition Multi Women vitamins and intra-workout BCAA's keeps me focused and on track.
By day, I am an 8th grade English teacher, mother of 2, and wife of supportive hubby Sean. By night, I am in the gym sweating through Lou's circuits, strength training, and conditioning. I feel healthier than I did in my 20's. I have so much energy, and I am excited about everything related to my new lifestyle: learning new workouts from Lou, trying new recipes, and planning new experiences - my husband wants to take me rock-climbing!
Regardless if I win or lose, I'm already a winner. Almost nightly, as my children put on their pajamas for bed, I dress in my gym clothes.
"You're going to get fit, Mommy?" asks my daughter.
"Yes, baby," I smile as I kiss her good night, "I'm going to get fit."
The 2014 Get Fit Challenge helped me be a role model for my 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son, showing them how to get fit and be happy. I will always treasure these last several months as I continue my path to a better, healthier, and happier life.
