Get Fit Challenge II 2014 Contestant
"Recently I found myself on a dance floor and I danced with the energy of a 19-year-old. I can't remember the last time I felt so good. Trapped inside everyone is a fit, shredded body. Because of my trainer at XSport, I have the best body of my entire life."
I love helping others as a special education teacher, a volunteer at the county jail, and at my church. But at 52, I had already suffered a heart attack and was losing mobility because of weight gain and arthritis. I had lost my husband to cancer in '94 and because my four children did not want to lose me too, they purchased training sessions at Lombard XSport and had me sign up for the Get Fit Challenge. My goal was to reassure my children that from now on I would take care of my health through proper fitness and nutrition and in the process, improve my ability to do the work that I love.
Walking into XSport was like stepping onto Mars. However, trainer Tim Olson put me at ease by using my strengths to push me beyond perceived limits, while keeping me safe from injury. The word "can't" was not allowed or the consequences were "burpees." He created a balanced diet plan and helped me to choose protein shakes which satisfied my food cravings, helped to build muscle, and kept my energy levels up so my metabolism would not slow down. Tim would text me workout plans to complete on the days when we did not meet, and when I was discouraged, he would get right down on the floor and do the exercises with me. I began accomplishing things I never dreamed possible such as 32" box jumps and 450 pound leg presses. XSport employees and members have witnessed my incredible transformation. Every day while I am working out, someone walks up to me and asks, "How did you do this?" Most of all, my children are ecstatic about my lifestyle change. They taped encouraging notes around the house and we would cook healthy meals together. In addition, I frequently replaced my car with a bicycle that was sent to me from Japan where my son is stationed as a Navy diver.
Recently I found myself on a dance floor and I danced with the energy of a 19-year-old. I can't remember the last time I felt so good. I used to feel a guilty about the time I spend training but have discovered that by taking care of myself I am far better equipped to help others. My students and the inmates I mentor are more receptive to my instruction because they see me as a person who knows how to achieve her goals.
Trapped inside everyone is a fit, shredded body. Because of my trainer at XSport, I have the best body of my entire life. Since I have lost 70 pounds in the past 9 months (40 in the last 12 weeks) I am constantly asked about the cost of training. My response? "What is your health worth?"
