You’ve been working on getting in your best shape and you want it to show when you’re headed out for a romantic evening, elite work event or a highly-photographed occasion.

Movie stars and models have their red-carpet countdowns, why not us? Here’s a short list of tips and tricks you can put to use the day before you’re get ready to make a “wow” impression.

  1. Sleep. If you can squeeze in a nap, great. Even if not, make sure the night before is a restful one if at all possible. It helps you recover from your crazy week as well as brightens your eyes.

  2. Drink lots of water. It’s always a good idea to stay adequately hydrated, but today is a day to be very sure you take in enough. It will aid with digestion, help avoid bloat, keep your skin and lips feeling moisturized and more.

  3. Avoid extra sodium. We want to avoid puffiness and bloat, so today is a day not to salt your food, and better still, to avoid higher sodium foods, especially processed foods. Needless to say, stay away from chips and fries. But more than that, watch out for frozen meals and restaurants until it’s time to eat your highly seasoned dinner at your event.

  4. Pop a B complex. It’s a water-soluble vitamin so it might add to your water shedding actions today, but more than that, B vitamins support energy. A great idea to help you feel a little more supported and less stresses as you get ready for the big night.

  5. Try a probiotic. If yogurt sits well with you, it’s as simple as that. If not, a little probiotic supplement can put the finishing touches on your digestion and help offset any lingering gas or bloating.

  6. Sweat a little, but not too much. You don’t want to exhaust yourself, but a nice workout where you get your heart rate up will help you get a bit of glow on, shed a few toxins and feel energetic and svelte.

  7. Lift a little. Again, we don’t want you to poop out from a heavy lifting workout, but pumping up some key muscle groups can help you look more defined at the last minute. Blood flows in and lines stand out. Ladies, triceps can really respond. Guys—work your pecs. Or just grab 20 pushups or plank for a bit. It will help!

  8. Stretch your spine. Salute the sun or simply lay on your back and streeeetch. Hold those abs, too. Your posture makes a huge difference in how you wear your clothes and how you walk into a room. So, lengthen from head to toe and pull your shoulders back a bit to remind you.

  9. Smile! You’ve been taking good care of yourself, and that should shine through. Confidence is one of the best ways to prep, ever!
